Italy vs Australia Day

It is our biggest tournament of the year, and yesterday proved a spectacular day for both bowlers and spectators!

Our annual (and very popular) Italy vs Australia Day was held on Sunday 2nd April and brought in over 200 bowlers and guests on the day.

The friendly rivalry match has been going since 9th April 1978 when it was decided that a lawn bowls game would find out who were the better bowlers; the Italians or the Australians.

Werribee’s rich heritage is fondly based on the relationships between the Italian families who many of which had become reputable market gardeners in Werribee South, and the well-known Australian families who had businesses in the Werribee CBD area. Both hard-working and with a love of lawn bowls, a friendly game soon became a tradition at Werribee Bowls Club.

Bowlers are by invitation only but if you’re keen to join in next year, let us know!

All set for the ‘longest day of the year’!
Breakfast, lunch and dinner is a mix of Italian and Aussie tucker!
The Aussie vs the Italian – the Italians won (again!)
Winners are grinners – especially when they are standing next to the Brunato girls!
