Looking forward to seeing you all on the 6th.

Oh What A Week @ The Hive!

Premier Ladies Team 2018.jpg

How exciting can it get?

Tuesday – First and foremost we had our Ladies Premier Team sting Clayton and get through to the grand final. Never thought that the game of bowls could be so exciting. At the end of a days play, the outcome hinged on the last few bowls of Lyn’s rink with both Lyn and Karen (Dusty) Brennan putting down crackers resulting in a 68/61 victory. Wonderful team effort by everyone including the supporters. The grand final is yours. Go for it. YOU CAN DO IT! Bring home the honey.

Thursday – we had Girls On The Green with six new ladies enjoying their introduction to bowls together with a return visit from 8 of the Mambourin ladies. Most of us take so much from granted. It is mind blowing to see the pleasure that these impaired ladies have derived from being able to get onto the green and participate in a sport using our Junior Jack Attack kit. Several of these ladies had never participated in any sport previously which attests to the fact that our sport is suitable for all ages, abilities and cultures. Win/Win.

Friday – we had around 30 mums and bubs at Bowling With Babies. What a hoot to see so much young blood on the greens. Whoever would have thought? And they love it and would like to continue post the pilot program. Win/Win.

And top it off we had 50+ on the greens for Friday Night @ The Hive. Our message is getting out there. We are a community club open to our diverse community. Our doors are open. Not only a potential source for new bowlers but a positive effect on club revenue not only for bowling but increased bar and raffle takings. Win/Win.

Word of mouth advertising is the best advertising that the club can get so it is our hope that every visitor goes away with a positive image of our club. It is up to each of us to ensure that visitors are made feel welcome and that we offer a hand of friendship to new faces arriving at the club.

Over the past few weeks our club has featured on the Bowls Victoria and WyndhamCity Twitter sites and received likes from Bowls Victoria, Bowls Australia and bowls clubs near and as far away as the UK which is great exposure “for the little bowls club hidden in the park at the end of the main street”.

Let’s keep the bowls rolling. Each and every member has a role to play.

Jazz @ The Hive – 17/3/18

The Slipdixies are a unique group of musicians who are inspired by the early jazz and blues music of the twenties and thirties from New Orleans. They create the sounds of early New Orleans music with a mild modern twist. Their repertoire ranges from hot driving to laid back blues.  They cook up a gumbo of popular favourites and forgotten treasures.

Join us @ The Hive for a foot-tapping night of fun.

Please contact Edith @ Werribee Jazz Club on 0410 302 340 to grab your spot.

Presentation Night @ The Hive 3/3/18

Presentation Night

A great night attended by around 90 members and their guests. This years format was a winner with increased numbers in attendance to see our club champions presented with their respective trophies.

Congratulations to all who entered in the various events as, without your involvement, there would be no club champions.

Congratulations to all winners and runners up.

And of course thanks go to Carol and Denise for managing the catering for the evening.

Despite the doom and gloom at the beginning of the pennant season with the loss of some of our top players, the club has done well this year under the circumstances providing other members with the opportunity to step up and rise to the occasion which they have done. Go Bees!

Steve Weston spoke on behalf of the Selection Committee and thanked all present for their contribution this season and understanding of the difficult task that the Selectors have had in dealing with the domino effect of covering the absences of players. Hopefully this situation will resolve it’s self next season.

Photos of the evening will be posted once they come through.

In closing I would like to wish our Ladies Premier team all the best in the finals commencing tomorrow.

It’s onwards & upwards @ The Hive.

Oh what a fantastic day.  Day One of the initial 4 week program we had seven new mums and bubs join us @ The Hive for lots of socialising and playing bowls.  Even the babies loved it.  They were all so good and getting out in the fresh air is great for all.  The pram brigade started arriving around 10am and the last group left around 3.15pm which is a good indication that everyone had a great day.

We are a community club, open to our diverse community and everyone is welcome.  Come one come all.  It’s all about new mums, bubs and mums to be. We have baby friendly facilities (change tables, play pen etc.) where you can enjoy a roll, while your babies relax right next to you!

It’s only $15 per session which includes your coffees and a light lunch.  All equipment is provided.  It’s all very casual.  It’s what works on the day for us all.  Flexibility is the name of the game!

The next sessions are:

Friday 2, 9 & 16 March commencing 1030-Noon followed by light lunch.

The program is supported by VicHealth and Bowls Victoria.
